California's Department of Industrial Relations is responsible for setting workplace rules on a variety of topics, including wages. Wage Order #9 applies to the transportation industry, and mandates a minimum level of break time for meals and rest. While it currently does not apply to public transit drivers governed by a collective bargaining agreement, the Department is currently considering extending its rules to that sector.
